OPERATOR-BUILT COURSE · 7 TRACKS · 271 LESSONS

Learn to build
a data center.

The industry will invest up to $3 trillion by 2030. Almost no one outside it understands how it actually works. We're changing that — 271 operator-built lessons, twenty minutes a day.

Foundations is free, no account. Pro is $39/mo or $290/yr — see pricing.

THE GAP

There is no front door to this industry.

Data centers are the backbone of AI and the cloud, yet the knowledge of how to develop, power, cool, and underwrite them lives in a few thousand heads. The people trying to break in have almost nowhere to turn.

How people learn it today

Slow, expensive, gated

  • Certification courses that cost thousands and assume you're already in the field
  • Dense technical manuals written for engineers, not newcomers
  • On-the-job osmosis that takes years and requires already having the job
  • "Know someone" — the relationships that quietly gatekeep the entire space
How First Megawatt works

Accessible, structured, real

  • Interactive lessons you can finish on a commute or a lunch break
  • Plain-language concepts with the actual numbers operators use
  • Scenario decisions drawn from real deals, not textbook hypotheticals
  • Built by someone who has spent two decades doing the work

This is the actual product.

No sign-up to look inside. The Power module below is the real lesson — fully playable, start to finish. This is the bar for all 271 lessons.

THE CURRICULUM

From your first megawatt to your first deal.

The Power module is fully playable in the demo above. The full curriculum — 7 tracks, 38 modules, 271 operator-built lessons — takes you from the physical plant all the way to how these projects get financed, leased, and won.

01Free

Foundations

Understand the physical infrastructure behind every data center — power, cooling, redundancy, efficiency economics — and the CRE crossover: why a data center is not a warehouse ($/MW, time-to-power, the tenant, the exit) and who governs what.

Designing the Facility

Turn a blank floor plate into a commissioned data center: space planning, electrical topology, mechanical design, AI-density readiness, and commissioning.

7 modules · 50 lessons

Power & the Site

Navigate the real-world process of securing utility power for a data center site — from preliminary load letters to energized substation.

Land & Entitlement

Site selection, zoning, permitting, environmental review, and the community opposition playbook — what it really takes to get a site entitled.

Development, A to Z

Follow a data center from raw land through commissioned operations: the full development sequence, budget anatomy, and long-lead procurement discipline.

Capital, Deals & Contracts

Build the underwriting model, structure leases, understand cap rates and valuation, and negotiate the architect and vendor contracts that govern your project.

Capstone: Greenfield to Commissioning

Take one real deal — a 48 MW AI campus — from raw land to a commissioned, leased facility, making every major call a developer, engineer, and investor actually makes.

Planned next: Hyperscaler procurement — how AWS, Azure, Google and Meta buy capacity, and what they require of the sites they lease.

The fundamentals are free and stay free: the physical plant, and why a data center is not a warehouse. What costs money is the depth almost nobody publishes: the power queue, the entitlement fight, the underwriting model, the capital stack, the close.

QUESTIONS

The honest answers to what people ask most. Still curious? Reply to any email we send — a person reads it.

Is it free?
Foundations is free forever — 46 lessons across 6 modules covering the power chain, cooling, redundancy, uptime tiers, PUE economics, and why a data center is not a warehouse. No card, no trial clock. The other six tracks (225 lessons: design, power procurement, land and entitlement, development, capital and deals, and the 48 MW capstone) are Pro: $39 a month, $290 a year, or $199 once for a lifetime founding seat. Anyone who joined the waitlist before launch keeps Pro free for a year.
What is it, exactly?
Short, interactive lessons — not videos to sit through or PDFs to skim. You read a concept in plain language, answer real scenario questions, and do hands-on exercises like wiring a power chain in the right order. It's the actual product embedded in the demo above.
Do I need a technical or engineering background?
No — that's exactly who it's built for. It starts from "how does a data center actually get developed and powered" and builds up, so analysts, brokers, career-changers, and the simply curious can follow it. You need twenty minutes and curiosity, not an engineering degree.
Who built it?
An operator with two decades of developing, powering, cooling, networking, and financing this infrastructure — the same work the lessons teach — not a course studio repackaging theory. Everything in it is how the work really happens, with the numbers operators actually use. That operator perspective is the whole point.
How much time does it take?
About twenty minutes a day — lessons short enough to finish between meetings or on a commute. There are seven tracks, so you can go deep over time or just pull the one module you need right now. Most people get the rhythm within the first few minutes of the demo.
What will I be able to do when I'm done?
Hold your own in a data center conversation and follow how a project actually comes together — power, cooling, networking, site selection, and the deal. The capstone has you underwrite a real 48 MW AI campus end to end: siting it, powering it, cooling it, and running the numbers a developer actually runs.
Is it open yet, and what do I get?
It is open now — no waitlist, no cohorts. Create a free account and start Foundations immediately. If you left your email before launch, your account already has a year of Pro on it; just sign in with that address.
Can my company use it to onboard new hires?
Quite possibly — getting new people fluent in the data center stack fast is exactly the problem it solves, and a few teams have already asked. That's a bit different from the individual version, so the best next step is a quick conversation about how many people you onboard and how often.

New modules, as they ship.

The app is open now — Foundations is free, no card. Leave your email if you want a note when new tracks land, plus the occasional operator breakdown of a live deal.
